16th Nov 2023

Science Week Ireland 2023 is a nationwide celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This annual event aims to inspire curiosity, ignite a passion for discovery, and promote the importance of STEM education and research in Ireland. Science Week offers a diverse range of activities and events for people of all ages to engage with science, explore its wonders, and appreciate its impact on society.

Here is what we have been up to in Scoil Angela to celebrate Science Week this year.

  • Junior Infants investigated whether an orange will float with it's skin on or off. They also discovered how to make a gummy bear grow, create a skittle rainbow, make raisins dance and explored the effect of washing up liquid on black pepper.
  • Senior Infants explored and created the sounds of rain and a storm.
  • First Class enjoyed making butter, playdough and lava lamps. They also designed boats to carry coins and discovered what seeds need to grow.
  • Second Class examined the change in air pressure, capillary action, how germs react to dish soap and constructed a speaker for a phone.
  • Third Class engaged in an Invisible Ink and Avocado painting experiment.
  • Fourth Class went on an trip to TUS and listened to a Science Rappers Guide to the Solar System
  • Fifth Class participated in a tour of the Solar System via zoom led by Rob O' Sullivan from the Blackrock Observatory
  • Sixth Class also attended TUS and learned to appreciate  the impact and importance of water in today's world.
